Click on the image for the 'fits' header information. M42, the middle 'star' of Orion's sword is one of the more dramatic deep sky objects. This image was taken using anti-blooming, which reduced the spikes coming from the bright stars, and allowed a longer exposure than normal to bring out the gasseous structure of the nebula.
